Mulayam slams UPA for its failure to curb Naxalism

Criticising Congress-led UPA Government for its failure to check Naxalism, Samajwadi Party national president Mulayam Singh Yadav said that due to the wrong policies of the Central Government, India has been isolated in the world.

“The recent attack on the Congress Parivartan Yatra in Chhattisgarh proves that the Naxalites are a threat to the country,” he said while expressing his deep condolence on the death of several senior Congress leaders in the attack.

Talking about the Naxalite issue, the former UP Chief Minister said that this menace can only be quelled by development. “We need to address the problems and even talk to them. And even then they don’t listen, action should be taken against them,” he said.

Yadav also disclosed that the SP had in the past forced Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to change P Chidambaram as the Home Minister as he was not ready to solve Naxal problem.

Addressing an intellectual conference at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, Yadav said that the country was being isolated in the world and at this point India has no friends.

“Nepal used to be a good friend of India but nowadays China has moved closer to them and now it controls 80 per cent of the Nepal markets,” he said. The SP president said that the Akhilesh Yadav Government was working for the upliftment of the poor and had introduced several schemes for their benefit. UP Assembly speaker Mata Prasad Pandey and State Minister Vijay Mishra also spoke in the conference.
