Exhorting party workers to connect with people Samajwadi Party’s national president Mulayam Singh Yadav said that the last lok Sabha election was an eye opener. “People did not vote for us because they were angry and now onus is on us to placate them,” he said.
“I feel bad to hear that only Mulayam’s family had won in the last general election. The truth is that I would have lost my election from Azamgarh. People like Ram Gopal Yadav, Shivpal Singh Yadav and Dharmendra Yadav vigorously campaigned for me. This trend shows that people are angry with us. WhyIJ We need to identify reason of that anger and placate them,” Yadav said while addressing people at a Sammelan organised jointly by the Panchayati Raj and Co-operative department in Saifai, his native village in Etawah, on Monday.
He said during elections the BJP and the RSS started a campaign that if Mulayam wins it would be a victory of Muslims and if Modi wins it will be victory of Hindus. This campaign divided election on communal lines in UP and ultimately we were wiped out, he said.
“Samajwadi Party has faced many ups and downs in its political career. This jolt will help us to introspect better. We will emerge winner. The Akhilesh Yadav Government is doing very good job and it is now up to the party workers to spread the message across the State. Go and connect with people. listen to their problems,” Yadav said during the function.
Hitting out at Narendra Modi he said that Prime Minister has failed to fulfil his promises. He spoke about something else during elections but is doing something different. “Our PM talks about Swachchh Bharat campaign but he actually does not know from where to start this campaign. He can not clean India by sweeping India Gate area. He need to go to village. He needs to construct toilets for people,” he said.
“Modi has spoken about bringing black money back to India. What happened to that promise. He spoke about giving jobs to the unemployed youths and eradicating corruption. He has failed on all counts,” Yadav said.
Party’s national general secretary Prof Ram Gopal Yadav said that workers should feel disheartened over lok Sabha elections. This happens in politics. Workers should work hard at the village level,” he said. PWD Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav also spoke on this occasion.
