With administration failing to deliver, Samajwadi Party national president Mulayam Singh Yadav took the rein in his hands and held meeting with Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and senior officials asking them to show results.

A senior official who was in the meeting told The Pioneer that Yadav Sr did the talking while Chief Minister remained a mute spectator. “He was angry as why officials failed to react in time and what prevented them to take action against the guilty that precipitated into riots in Muzaffarnagar,” the official said.

The meeting continued for almost 45 minutes in which Yadav Sr told officials in no uncertain words that he would not allow criminals to hold the State on ransom. “At one point of time he even told Akhilesh Yadav that he was losing grip on the administration,” the official said and added that Mulayam stressed on the ‘hanak’ of the administration if one wants result. The meeting was held at the backdrop of news about Governor Bl Joshi sending report to the Centre in which he gave details of State Government’s failure to check riot.

The Governor reportedly cited sequence of events beginning August 27, when three persons were killed in Kawal town of Muzaffarnagar over an incident of eve-teasing. He also spoke about administrative lapses.

Mulayam Singh asked the officials to deliver because people have high faith from the Government. He also said that such incidents give opposition parties an opportunity to spread canard against the Government.

Chief Secretary Javed Usmani, DGP Devraj Nagar and Principal Secretary Home, RM Srivastava also attended the meeting.

later talking to reporters Samajwadi Party spokesman Rajendra Chaudhry said that SP leadership is serious about the incident. Akhilesh Yadav is monitoring the situation till late night. When asked why permission was given to hold mahapanchayat when situation was tense Chaudhry said it was a matter of probe.

He blamed opposition parties for this riot and said BJP, BSP and RlD were hand in glove in spreading rumours against the Government. “The demand to impose President’s rule was unjustified,” he said.
