For the first time in many days, senior Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Roy addressed a public rally vouching for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s honesty and integrity and telling his audience that a day would come when it would be crystal clear that “there is no party as honest as the Trinamool Congress and there is no person as honest as Mamata Banerjee.”
Reiterating once again at an election rally the former Railway Minister who had last week received summons from the CBI probing the multi-crore Saradha scam case said, “I will once again claim that I have done nothing immoral either as a human being or as a party man, either for personal gains or for my party, either on personal level or politically.” The ruling Trinamool Congress had been on the back foot regarding the Saradha issue with a host of its leaders including Ministers and MPs cooling heals behind the bar.
He was speaking in a meeting held ahead of the February 13 Bongaon Parliamentary by-elections. Roy the number two in his party hierarchy said he would return to Delhi soon after the meeting for some works related to his party. In a related development jailed Trinamool MP Kunal Ghosh had written a letter to CBI Joint Director seeking a grilling session where he could be allowed to sit nose-to-nose with Chief Mamata Minister Mamata Banerjee, sources said.
Meanwhile Sibnarayan Das the alleged “guru” of jailed Saradha kingpin Sudipto Sen was remanded to CBI custody. At large for the past 10 months or so he was earlier arrested on Saturday along with an imported gun by the CBI sleuths. It has been alleged by Sen that it was Das who brought him to the chit fund business.
