While the Bengal chapter of the BJP welcomed former Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Roy’s entry into the saffron outfit and while the Bengal ruling TMC maintained a studied silence on the issue, both the left and the Congress tended to “rejoice” the new development in Delhi — where Roy a former Railway Minister joined the BJP — saying the “people of Bengal are politically mature enough to understand the reason and implication of what happened today.”
CPI(M)’s Md Salim said “till the other day Mukul Roy was the biggest fixer for Mamata Banerjee and from now on he would act as a mercenary for the BJP and repeat the same bad deeds that he did for his previous boss. Today’s development shows that there is no difference between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress.”
His party colleague and former MP Sujan Chakrabarty said “Mukul Roy’s joining the BJP will only strengthen the dormant chemistry between Modi bhai and Didi bhai. Roy is the link between the two and will only be expected to manage the chit fund scam the dirtiest of all scams for the Trinamool Congress and its topmost leaders. Today it was once again iterated that both Modi and Didi are the students of the same teacher.”
The Congress also launched a scathing attack on the BJP saying “they have proved that there is no difference between the two parties.”
Senior State leader OP Mishra said “the Friday’s development only shows that the BJP in its desperation to gain power in Bengal will go any distance and even compromise on its stated stance on corruption.”
He added, “though the BJP may gain temporarily,” in long run “the people of Bengal will understand how they were duped by the two parties and their leaders.”
However, State BJP president Dilip Ghosh said “we welcome Roy’s joining the BJP as it will only strengthen our organisation in the State.”
