Mufti Govt completes 100 days in office

The BJP-PDP alliance Government headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Monday completed 100 days in office in Jammu & Kashmir.

In the absence of any fanfare on the occasion, it was the Opposition who took the centre stage in the State and dubbed the 100-day-old Mufti-led Government as ‘U-turn sarkar’.

Both the National Conference and the Congress targeted the alliance for ignoring the plight of flood-affected population and taking a U-turn on several important issues such as revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, Abrogation of Article 370, holding dialogue with the separatists and improving cross-loC trade.

Even though Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was present in Jammu in the first half of the day, neither him nor Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh made any efforts to present their report card to list their achievements in office.

Nirmal Singh addressed a hurriedly called Press conference at his official residence where he defended the working of the alliance Government during first 100 days in office.

Singh frankly admitted the fact that the alliance faced hiccups in its early days in office but maintained that it is now moving in the right direction.

He said in the first 100 days  the BJP-PDP alliance has managed to set the stage for implementation of its Agenda of Alliance with focus on equitable development of the all three regions of the State.

He once again made an effort to reach out to the electorate in Jammu region by assuring that an AIIMS would be set up in Jammu and an announcement is likely to be made soon.

On the issue of shelving Artificial lake Project, Singh said an impression was created that the Government was stopping work on the project.  He said that after the controversy was created, he personally rushed to New Delhi and met Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti to resolve the issue of the project design. He said the work has been initiated on the project and likely to be completed by March 2016.

On the other hand, working president of the National Conference and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah worked laboriously before presenting the report card of ‘U-turn sarkar’ at a media conference in Srinagar.

Holding a copy of the report titled ‘100 Days of the U-Turn Government’, Omar claimed he is “much happier now” than the day Assembly results were declared in December last year.

He said that the PDP-BJP Government has done “biggest possible U-Turns on their own Agenda of Alliance”.
