Citing the “comprehensive  defeat” of the Congress in the local body elections in Madhya Pradesh, the BJP on Monday maintained that “people’s court” has accorded a  “tight slap” on the face of the  Congress for making “false charges” against Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the Vyapam case.

BJP has won all the 16 ‘Nagar Nigam’ seats with Congress scoring a duck. The BJP has bagged 42 of 69 ‘Nagar Palika’ elections with Congress taking only 18 seats. The BJP also came out with flying colours in the polls held for Nagar Parishad, Zila Panchayat and Janpad Panchayat. The BJP won 123 Panchayat Parishad seats.

BJP vice-president Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, who is also in charge of the State, and Madhya Pradesh BJP president Nand Kumar Singh Chauhan told a that the “taint” Congress tried to throw at Chouhan has been cleaned by people.

BJP has been able to demolish some of the ‘pocket boroughs’ of the Congress, “even our Muslim Parishad won”. Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu took to Twitter to hit out at Congress saying it was a “slap” in its face for “mud-slinging” against Chouhan. Chauhan said around 20 to 25 lakh voters exercised their franchise in the local body polls and the BJP won in many seats for the first time ending Congress’s rein there.  The people punished the Congress for indulging in “character assassination”.

On the Vyapam controversy, Sahasrabuddhe said it was a case of a major “administrative failure” and the state government was trying to undo it.
