Move over ‘Happy Birthday’...It is time for ‘Shubh Janmadinam Thubhyam’

It is time to say good bye to the age old greeting song “Happy Birth Day To You..”. Thanks to a group of youngsters (youth, to be precisely), the nation has a Sanskrit song to greet all on the occasion of their birthdays.

A young Sanskrit scholar Dr Sampadananda Mishra, who introduces himself as a teacher imparting knowledge to PG students to PG students (Play Group to Post Graduate) has penned the lyrics “Shubh Janmadinam Thubhyam, Shubh Janmadine Thava He, Sakalam Madhuram Bhooyath…” which has been composed in the same tune of Happy Birthday To You song.

It has become a rave among the youngsters as well as old people. “We found that it was the music which made the people hooked to the Happy Birthday song.

The only missing link was the words in Sanskrit which synchronized with the music. The lyrics was the result of painstaking research that took us months to perfect,” Dr Mishra told The Pioneer.

The Good Poetry Project, an initiative by Vineet KKN Panchhi  and his colleagues, is the master brain behind this venture and it is expected to give a boost to learning of Sanskrit.

“The structure and design of Sanskrit is such that it has contributed to the expressions of our thoughts and feelings in precise and concise manner. Writers rooted in Sanskrit alone could bring back India to the forefront,” said Prof Mishra.

He said that the failure of modern and post-modern literature is further proof that ignorance of Sanskrit is a handicap in creating masterpieces in literature and arts.

“The knowledge of Sanskrit can aid and empower our capabilities to understand arts, literature, philosophy and science in a big way.
