In yet another incident of a sexual assault on an eight-year-old child, Tamil Nadu Police on Friday arrested Modhiar Siddique Ali, administrator of the Natham Mosque at Keezhakarai, a Muslim stronghold in Ramanathapuram district.
The charge is that Ali has been sodomising the child for the last one year. He had also video-graphed the act using his mobile phone and has been blackmailing the child, according to a senior police official.
Though the boy’s mother had complained to the all powerful Jamaat, no action was taken against Ali. The boy’s father came to know about the incident when one of his friends showed him the video clip of the incident as an MMS which had been uploaded by Ali.
Besides booking Ali, police have registered a case against Jamath president Abdul Ajeez, correspondent Jahangir and member Sirajuddin for allegedly covering up the crime.
Meanwhile, Karaikkal Police on Thursday arrested 10 people which include seven activists of an Islamic outfit for gang-raping a 21–year-old woman. The police are in the look out for five others who are absconding. The list of absconders include two more activists of the Islamic outfit. The victim, hailing from Thiruvarur district in Tamil Nadu went to Karaikkal accompanied by
her friend to meet the
latter’s boyfriend.
A gang of three persons kidnapped the woman and gang-raped in a secluded place. It is reported that the gang included a close friend of a Pondicherry MlA because of which the local police tried not to register the case.
Monika Bharadwaj, Senior Superintendent of Polce told reporters that two policemen including a sub-inspector attached to the Karaikkal Police Station have been placed under suspension for not registering the rape case.
