The Supreme Court on Wednesday stated that the material contained in the Nira Radia tapes was more serious than the 2G spectrum scam and wondered what prevented the Government or investigating agencies to take action.
“We find from the material (transcript of tapes) that it is much more serious than the 2G spectrum scam. Telecom was only one part,” said a Bench of Justices GS Singhvi and V Gopala Gowda. This material was available to CBI for the past four years during its investigation into the 2G scam.
Having gone through the report of the six-member expert committee which examined the transcripts and recommended investigation in four cases, the Bench observed that Radia was virtually in every field.
Not wanting to be seen as pre-judging the issue, it remarked, “Call her a liaison officer or a middleman, she is in every nook and corner.” Some of the talks were on sensitive trans-border transactions which the Court termed to be a “very, very serious matter”.
