In a big boost to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachchh Bharat Mission (Gramin), more than 62.45 per cent households in rural India have access to toilets while their usage stands at 91.29 per cent till June, according to a survey by the Quality Council of India (QCI).

To evaluate the progress made under the Swachchh Bharat Mission (Gramin), the QCI on the directions of the Union Rural Development Ministry conducted a national third-party verification survey of the mission.

Under the mission, the QCI has surveyed 1.4 lakh rural households across 4,626 villages and found the overall toilet coverage to be 62.45 percent. The Swachchh Survekshan Gramin 2017 report was launched by Union Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation Narendra Singh Tomar on Tuesday.

“Whereas, as per official data the overall access to toilets was 63.73 per cent, "so the findings of the QCI are near to our data, which testifies the progress made under the clean India mission,” the Union Minister said.
