Moradabad jail authorities unable to execute convict

Moradabad jail authorities have expressed their inability to execute death convict Shabnam while Agra jail authorities are yet to receive the death warrant issued for the hanging of Salim.

Death warrants were issued by the district and sessions court on Amroha district on May 21 for Shabnam and her lover Saleem, who wiped out in cold-blood her entire family — parents, two brothers, sister-in-law and two minors - after heavily sedating them to remove opposition to their love affair and also to grab family property, in 2008.

District and sessions judge Ashok Pathak also instructed jail superintendents of Moradabad and Agra, where the two are lodged, to make arrangements for the execution of the two.

Moradabad jail authorities, where Shabnam is lodged, have informed the court that there are no facilities for execution of capital punishment of a woman in their jail. They have also recommended that Shabnam could be hanged at Mathura jail, which has the facilities. But on the other hand Agra Central jail authorities, where Salim is lodged, claimed that they are yet to receive the death warrant. Earlier it was also reported that both the jails have returned the death warrant as it did not mention the date and time of the execution.
