Police in Central Assam’s Nagaon district have registered a case of molestation and sexual assault against Union Minister of State for Railway Rajen Gohain based on a complaint filed by a woman.
Police said that a woman lodged an FIR against the Union Minister on August 2 alleging that she was molested and sexually assaulted by Gohain. Based on the FIR, we have registered a case against the accused under section 417, 376 and 506 of the IPC, said the police adding that the woman, however, later submitted a letter to us saying that she want to withdraw the case.
“We are going ahead as per the law. Her statement was recorded and medical examination will be done. However, we have also received a letter from the complainant later that she has registered the FIR due to some misunderstanding and that she wants to withdraw the same. However, we have to go to the court after registering the case. We are taking steps as per the law,” said Nagaon Superintendent of Police Sankar Brata Raimedhi.
He further said that another person Nabarun Borgohain also lodged a complaint against the woman saying that she and her husband has been blackmailing him and his father, demanding money for a long time.
