legendary singer late Mohammed Rafi’s son Shahid Rafi on Friday joined the Congress in presence of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
Shahid, who had unsuccessfully contested the elections to the Maharashtra legislative Assembly in 2014 from a ticket of the Owaisi brothers-led Majli-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), said he was joining the Congress as he wanted to serve people as a legislator.
“I want to help and serve the people as my father used to… I believe that by becoming a legislator, I can help the masses. Many parties have come and gone but little has changed. I am requesting the Congress to give me an opportunity to serve them,” Shahid said.
Recently, Shahid had demanded that his father be conferred with Bharat Ratna posthumously.IJ
