The concept of ‘minimum Government and maximum governance’ coined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has found a taker in Tamil Nadu in the form of Anbumani Ramadoss, the-47-yer-old chief ministerial candidate of the PMK, a political outfit promoted by the Vanniyar community.
In contrast to other political leaders, Anbumani, a graduate from the Madras Medical College, is going around the State with concrete proposal and an action plan which he claims would turn around the fortunes of the people of the State. While unravelling his blueprint for the development of Tamil Nadu, Anbumani does not blame the misdeeds and failures of his rivals. “Know me and support me for a better living,” is his slogan to the people of Tamil Nadu.
The fact that Anbumani is making an impact among the electorate in Tamil Nadu could be understood from the fact that his rivals have started offering people what he placed before them during his tour to various regions of Tamil Nadu. It was Anbumani who declared first that he would make Tamil Nadu a liquor-free State once he is sworn in as Chief Minister. Political parties like the DMK and the Congress which had scoffed at the suggestion of prohibition in Tamil Nadu have been forced to make a volte face and declare that they too would introduce prohibition if voted to power.
The last three days saw Anbumani focussing his campaign in Chennai which had suffered the nature’s fury in December last resulting in the devastation of parts of the metropolitan area. The PMK leader is the first politician to point out that Chennai bore the brunt of the fury due to the three-tier administrative system managing the city.
“The Chennai district has an area of 176 sq km with the district collector as the head of the administration. The Chennai Municipal Corporation headed by the mayor has an administrative area of 474 sq km. The Chennai Metropolitan Development Area headed by the minister for information and publicity has an area of 1189 sq km. This has resulted in confusion and chaos leading to delays in implementing development schemes and a sense of indecisiveness has set in,” said Anbumani.
He also pointed out that Chennai is the first municipality to be set up outside United Kingdom. Unauthorised and unregulated construction has literally destroyed Chennai, said Anbumani while making a power point presentation which he described as a new urban agenda for Chennai Metropolitan Area. living up to his profession as a medical doctor, Anbumani has diagnosed the maladies causing the degradation of the city. “It is for the people in Chennai to react to these proposals. I am waiting for them to get back to me with their ideas so that a comprehensive programme could be formulated to make Chennai one of the beautiful cities in the world,” said Anbuman. No name calling or blaming his rivals. Anbumani means business. Whether he can make it to Fort Saint George (Tamil Nadu secretariat) or not Anbumani would continue with his mission to make Chennai and Tamil Nadu a better place to live.
