Without naming rival party, BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi targeted Congress and asked people in chemical industries Why India can’t produce specialised chemical ink for printing our currency notesIJ “Our country has to depend upon import, but it is the matter of 5-7 months. Those who are responsible for the plight of industry would not remain at the helm,” said Gujarat Chief Minister.
Despite Indian Chemical industry is more than 1000-year-old, India’s share in global chemical
business is hardly three per cent, said Modi at an inaugural function of India Chem Gujarat 2013 International Conference in the State capital on Thursday.
He called for creating corpus fund for combined research in chemical industry’s responsibility towards the society and environmental technology for healthy growth of the industry in India, like that for common effluent treatment plants.
Modi said there is tremendous scope for producing next generation chemicals, increasing productivity and value addition in chemical industries. For instance, there are over 300 derivatives of castor oil alone.
He said that chemical and petrochemical industry faced an extra challenge from hazardous substances, posing environmental threats to the
society. The onus is on the industry, which should observe the extra-sensitive safety norms and stringent laws. He said that global warming has its worst effect on chemical sector.
