BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is known for putting things in global perspective. After becoming the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Modi floated ‘Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit’ to attract investments in the State. ‘Statue of Unity’, the world’s tallest statue of Sardar Patel on the banks of Narmada is also his brainchild. Now, on the 144th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, he came out with an idea to celebrate Mahatma’s 150th anniversary on global scale.
“Gandhi had shown a way of human welfare and brotherhood. Being Indians we should make commitment to celebrate his 150th birth anniversary at the global scale and ‘Gandhi Jayanti’ needs to be celebrated across the world,” said Modi after attending a prayer meeting at ‘Kirti Madir’, the birth place of Mahatma in Porbander. He said that Mahatma’s thought of classless society and cleanliness should not only be followed but it needs to be imbibed in order to spread harmonious conditions in social lives.
Modi also urged people to buy khadi to help thousands of the poor involved in the making of khadi garments. On the occasion he, released CD of Mahatma Gandhi’s photos. He also paid tribute to former Prime Minister lal Bahadur Shastri.
Meanwhile, the Gujarat Government has decided to release 285 prisoners from jail to mark Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary. Though habitual offenders involved in serious crimes related to narcotics, rape, national security etc were not given relief.
