BJP’s national president Amit Shah on Monday kicked off the campaign for the Assembly elections in Jharkhand, telling the party cadres not to bother about who will be the Chief Minister and that the elections in the State will be fought under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“People often ask me who will lead in the Jharkhand elections. I am today making it clear that the polls in Jharkhand will be contested under the leadership of Narendra Modi,” said Shah, addressing a gathering of over 20,000 party workers at Prabhat Tara Ground here.

Shah’s unequivocal stand on leadership was meant to bring about a truce among the front-runners, who are engaged in the game of one-upmanship for the top post, giving confusing signals to the cadres.

later, speaking to a select group of journalists he steered clear of tribal-non-tribal CM controversy. “Whoever wins the people’s support will become the CM,” he said.

“Fight the polls for electing your CM, not your MlA. If you fight for electing an MlA we will lose the polls. Fight for giving a clear mandate. I am appealing to the people today that if you want to give a government then give a clear mandate so that we can develop the State as a welfare State,” Shah said.
