Modi to hold meet with top BJP leaders

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will hold another brainstorming session with top BJP leaders here on Thursday to fine-tune party’s strategy for the forthcoming polls in States and the next year’s lok Sabha elections.

As chairman of BJP’s campaign committee, Modi had last month taken a meeting of party general secretaries and members of the Central Programme Implementation and Coordination Committee on electoral strategies.

“He had suggested certain programmes that party should take up in future. Those authorised have worked on his idea and have come out with a tentative programme. The Thursday meeting will discuss it in detail and decide future course of action,” a senior BJP leader said.

Sources claimed that Modi was in no hurry to constitute the campaign committee and will work with general secretaries and Programme Implementation Committee members.

These leaders will subsequently have a meeting with members of the BJP Parliamentary Board, the highest decision making body of the party.

“Once these deliberations are over, the party may formally announce a nationwide campaign,” another BJP leader said. Incidentally, the BJP had to postpone its Jail Bharo campaign against the UPA on two occasions — after Naxal attack on Congress leaders in Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand floods.

After his appointment as head of the BJP campaign committee, Modi had addresses his first rally outside Gujarat — at Madhopur on Punjab-J&K border — on 60th death anniversary of party founder Shyama Prasad Mookerjee on June 23. From this month onwards, Modi is planning a nationwide tour to hold political rallies in different parts of the country.
