On the occasion of International Day of Cooperatives, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the 17th Indian Cooperative Congress at Pragati Maidan here on Saturday, majorly highlighting the steps taken by his Government to boost the cooperative sector in the country.

Driven by the belief that cooperatives can help the country to achieve “Sahakar Se Samriddhi” and make India a USD 5 trillion economy, Modi’s address comes at a time when the new National Cooperative Policy is being formulated by a committee, under the chairmanship of former Union cabinet minister Suresh Prabhu.

The 17th Indian Cooperative Congress main objective is to discuss various trends in cooperative movement, showcase best practices being adopted, deliberate challenges being faced and chalk out future policy direction for growth of India’s cooperative movement.

On the occasion, Modi will also launch an e-commerce platform NCUI Haat for cooperative products and unveil a cooperative extension and advisory services portal, focusing on a ‘learning management system’ that provides information and services for cooperative members, leaders, managers and the general public.
