Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday took stock of the litigation wing of the Centre situated in Supreme Court following complaints that case files marked to law officers were not reaching them on time.
Holding a closed-door meeting with law Minister DV Sadananda Gowda and top officials of the legal Affairs Department, Modi raised several queries on the functioning of the Central Agency Section (CAS) which is the nodal agency responsible for stock-keeping of files and assigning cases to the concerned law officers.
According to a senior Government functionary present in the meeting, the PM was briefed about the functioning of CAS. “The Prime Minister wanted to understand the functioning of the CAS and it was explained to him,” the official said. The review by the PM was slated in November soon after law Minister visited the CAS.
The Government was informed that Government’s ill-preparedness in crucial cases was either due to files being misplaced or failing to reach concerned law officers on time. Of late, steps have been made to upgrade the record room of the CAS.
