Happy with the success of his tour to Japan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted promptly as he touched down in New Delhi: “I thank the people of Japan for the affection, warmth & wonderful hospitality during my visit. Thank you Japan.”

During his visit, Modi bonded well with Japanese PM Shinzo Abe that helped the two nations upgrade their relationship to the level of ‘Special Strategic and Global Partnership.’ Not only the two nations signed five pacts relating to defence exchanges, cooperation in clean energy, roads and highways, healthcare and women, Modi also managed to get investments as well.

Japan has pledged investments worth $35 billion over the next five years for boosting India’s infrastructure, including smart cities and bullet trains.  Japan also lifted a ban on six Indian entities, including Hindustan Aeronautics limited (HAl), which had been imposed after the 1998 nuclear tests. later, Modi termed the Indo-Japan relationship as “yeh fevicol se be zyada mazboot jod hai” (this bond is stronger than that of Fevicol).”

Buoyed with the positivity generated by the PM’s visit to Japan, Sushma Swaraj went to receive the PM at the airport with flowers to congratulate him for the successful visit. This was Modi’s first bilateral tour outside the subcontinent. “EAM @SushmaSwaraj ji told me that the visit has generated a lot of positivity & optimism in India about our ties with Japan. Glad to know,” Modi tweeted.
