Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Monday slammed BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for projecting himself as holier-than-thou leader. While counting achievements of UPA Government, she also accused Modi for not appointing lokayukta in Gujarat to conceal his Government’s failures and corruption.
“Modi aise prachar karte hain jaise woh dudh ke dhule hue hain,” charged Sonia Gandhi while addressing a public rally in Muzaffarpur for her party candidate Akhilesh Kumar Singh. Senior RJD leader and party candidate from Vaishali Raghuvansh Prasad Singh shared the dais with the Congress chief in the rally. Sonia also appealed people to vote for Raghuvansh to strengthen the hand of secularism in the country.
It was for the first time that an RJD leader was present on the dais of Congress president’s public rally in Bihar. However, political pundits of the State believed that since the electoral prospects of the RJD becoming bright, the Congress president might have decided to be seen with a RJD leader in a public rally which, earlier, was conspicuously absent.
While attacking the BJP, Sonia said that there are two ideologies in the country today. One is of the Congress which stands for communal harmony, peace and social equality on the other hand the BJP believes in distrust and disharmony. “The parameter of the BJP is that it does not believe in talent but on caste and religion to push through itself. Now you have to make distinction between these two ideologies that which one is better for the country,” Sonia said, adding that without peace and communal harmony “the country cannot run but the BJP doesn’t understand this”.
Sonia also said that they (BJP) think there has not been any development in the country so far and “as if they have magic wand in their hands to fix everything if they will come to power”. “When the country got independent, unemployment in the country was at its peak but the works being done in the last 60 years are not being seen by them. The country, which was dependent on other countries for everything, now stands among the progressive countries of the world but they could not see it,” she said amid loud cheering from the public.
While referring a law like RTI, she asked why Modi has not taken such a step in his State. She also sought to know why the Gujarat Chief Minister has not appointed lokayukta for the last 10 years. “Because, Modi wanted to conceal the failures and corruption of his Government there,” she said.
The Congress president further recounted the flagship achievements of the UPA Government like MNREGA, food security law, Kisan credit card yojna, new land acquisition law, one rank and one pension scheme among others. “Besides, the UPA Government has also implemented almost all the recommendations of Sacchar Committee report,” declared Sonia Gandhi. “When our next Government will be formed we’ll provide houses, employment and medical facility to one all in the country,” Sonia said. Muzaffarpur goes to poll on May 7.
