Against the backdrop of the ongoing hectic poll-campaign in the Assembly election bound Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met BJP MPs from the State which, however, significantly missed the MP from Kheri Ajay Mishra ‘Teni’ whose resignation as a Central Minister is being demanded by the Opposition parties in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.
It was the PM’s fourth such interaction in the Winter Session of Parliament with party MPs categorised Statewise. ‘Teni’s son is among the 13 accused arrested in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence on October 3 during Farmers agitation in UP in which eight People were killed.
‘Teni’ is a Brahmin, an influential caste in the UP which is to go to polls in less than three months.
Around 36 MPs from the State attended the breakfast meeting with Modi.
The number was reportedly restricted to less than the total strength of the party in Parliament from Uttar Pradesh due to Covid-19 protocols, sources said.
The discussion was focused on how MPs could foster better communication between constituents and themselves,
Modi told UP MPs what he also said to the party MPs from five southern states a day before that they should organize cultural and sports events in their areas to encourage both health and a sporting spirit and identify talents.
