Speculation is rife that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi may contest parliamentary election from Uttar Pradesh.
BJP national secretary and party in-charge of Kashi region, Rameshwar Chaurasia, further stated that there was a possibility of Modi contesting either from lucknow, Varanasi or Allahabad. Talking to mediapersons here at the party office in Gulab Bagh on Tuesday, Chaurasia said the party’s agenda of contesting polls under an experienced leader had sparked off the possibility of Modi contesting from the Hindi heartland.
Chaurasia, however, added that the final decision of Modi’s candidature would be taken by the party’s Parliamentary Board.
Since Modi has been projected as the party’s Prime Ministerial candidate, it was felt that the Gujarat CM should contest from UP. This would contribute largely in jacking up the party’s prospects in the coming lS polls. Moreover, there was a feeling that only Modi could provide good governance, Chaurasia explained.
The party has set target to win 50 seats in the UP, he said and added that there was much enthusiasm in the State BJP following Modi’s elevation as chairman of party’s poll campaign committee, he said. Criticising the Akhilesh Government, Chaurasia said the law and order situation had reached its lowest ebb
