Modi made false promises: Rahul

Published on:

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi once again targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to fulfill poll promises. He even charged Modi for indulging in ‘politics of vendetta’ which was impeding development and progress, earlier witnessed during the UPA Government’s rule.

Rahul was upset with the scrapping of several projects in his Parliamentary constituency Amethi like Mega Food Park and Hindustan Paper Mill and shifting of Rajiv Gandhi IIIT to the main campus in Allahabad allegedly at the instance of the Centre.

“Modi said he will not indulge in politics of vendetta but he is doing it with the people of Amethi,” he said at a public meeting in Jafarganj Mandi Samiti campus in Jagdishpur on the second day of his three-day visit to Amethi on Thursday.

“The scrapping of food park and paper factory and shifting of IIIT are glaring examples of vendetta politics. These projects could have changed the lives of the locals. Now the Centre is obstructing the process of setting up a Kendriya Vidalaya in Amethi,” he alleged.

“During lok Sabha polls, Modi announced in Amethi to develop the area if his Government came to power. Two years later, the people of Amethi are left to face the PM’s wrath. But is it their faultIJ Modi talks of development but he is harming the people,” Rahul asserted

Attacking the PM and the NDA Government at the Centre, the Congress leader termed the promises made at the time of lok Sabha polls as ‘fake’. He said that people were cheated in the name of ‘achche din’ (good days), scaling down inflation and return of back black money stashed abroad.

Taking a jibe at ‘Make in India’ campaign, the Congress MP said, “The Babbar Sher (mascot of the campaign) does not even squeak even like a mouse. No one got employment under the scheme.”

“loans of industrialists worth thousand of crores of rupees are being waived but not that of poor farmers. The previous UPA Government had written off loans of farmers amounting to Rs70,000 crore,” he claimed.

“We are not in the government, yet we will fight for the people on the roads, Vidhan Sabha and lok Sabha as they are ridden with basic problems. I thank my party men for their support and exhort them to ensure that Congress comes to power after the coming polls,” said Rahul.

Earlier, expelled PCC member Rajesh Pandey and his supporters staged a dharna against Congress chief Sonia Gandhi’s representative Kl Sharma at Munshiganju cross of Amethi on Thursday morning while Rahul was meeting people at a nearby guest house.

On the last day of his visit, Rahul will attend a meeting of District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee and is expected to leave for New Delhi on Friday afternoon.
