The day after BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi called the Congress a virus that needs to be erased, Congress president Sonia Gandhi hit back and called Modi a divisive face. Addressing her last leg of election rally at Kolar in Karnataka, where Union Minister KH Muniyappa is seeing re-election, the Congress president said “an attempt is being made to hide reality through posters.
Karnataka is going to polls on April 17 and for both the Congress and BJP, Karnataka has been very crucial as far the number game is concerned. In her address at Kolar, a reserved constituency, Sonia said, “Massive posters are being put across the country to hide the real face of a person. His true face is being hidden with a mask”.
Cautioning against ‘divisive forces’ attempting to polarise the country, Sonia urged the people to vote for her party in the April 17 lok Sabha election in the State. She said “You have great responsibility in this election to save the nation by voting for the Congress in majority and defeating those forces attempting to divide the country on religion and caste lines,” Gandhi said .
Asserting that the ruling party had worked for the poor, weaker sections, minorities and SCs and STs, she said the Congress-led UPA government had transformed the landscape of rural India by providing basic infrastructure and access to education and healthcare.
“It is our progressive policies that enabled the people to access mobile, computer and internet even in villages and small towns,” she said. Sonia who addressed two rallies in Karnataka on Wednesday blasted Gujarat model of development. “It was during BJP rule that there was intrusion into a woman’s personal life in Gujarat,” she said.
Asking people to support Congress for its secular credentials and commitment to social justice, Sonia alleged that minorities have had to make compromises in Gujarat and land is being snatched from farmers.
Modi on Tuesday in his election rallies in Karnataka blasted Congress parties claim on MNREGA and alleged both Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi were telling lies to the people. But Sonia Gandhi repeated her claim about UPA’s flagship programme MNEREGA and said it has done good to people.
