The Congress on Friday lashed out at Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of becoming the Prime Minister saying he has just started learning the alphabets of national politics.
Reacting to Modis’ meeting with AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa and his attempt to strike a bargain with her, Congress spokesperson Renuka Chowdhary remarked that the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate is yet to understand national politics unlike the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
“While Modi’s chapter has just begun and he is yet to understand what national politics is, Jayalalithaa is a very big player for long,” Chowdhary said while talking to the reporters. Modi called on the Tamil Nadu CM on Friday and also appreciated her in public meetings. At the same time, party general secretary Digvijay Singh accused Modi of pushing the whole of Gujarat under debt and said he will do the same for entire India.
Hitting out at the Gujarat model of development, Singh said the State has registered the highest per capita debt burden on its people. “Gujarat has one of the highest debt liabilities. In Gujarat, the per capital debt is highest in the country. This means that every Gujarat citizen is under highest debt, this the figures confirm,” said Singh.
The remarks against Modi is however, countered by the BJP, which said the per capita debt in Gujarat is lower at Rs 23,000 than the national average of Rs 33,000. Terming Singh as “politically bankrupt” and one who knows nothing about economics, BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh said, “When Narendra Modi took over as Chief Minister, as per the Planning Commission report the percentage to GSDP was somewhere around 39 per cent. Today it is 19 per cent. So there has been a huge reduction.”
