Modi calls up Ghani, expresses grief on Afghan terror attacks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called up Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani to express condolences for the recent incidents of terror attack in the country.

“PM Modi called me to offer condolences on the recent senseless killings of civilians across #AFG by the enemies of humanity. We discussed the need for an end to terrorist sanctuaries in our neighborhood. India has always been a good friend of Afghans, sharing our pain and grief,” Ghani said on Twitter.

It is learnt that Pakistani PM Shahid Abassi too wanted to speak to Ghani to discuss the recent terror attacks. However, media reports from Afghanistan, quoting Government sources, claimed that Ghani had turned down Abbasi's request to hold talks over the phone. Instead, a high level delegation led by the Chief of Afghan intelligence agency was sent to Islamabad with evidence of involvement of Pak-based terrorists in the recent attacks in Kabul. Afghanistan has asked Islamabad to hand over these militants to them.

“The terrorists had been directed, the attacks had been planned and instructed from there to conduct those terror attacks in Kabul,” Afghan ambassador to India Shaida Abdali said while blaming Pakistan.

“The events of the past few days have echoed with deep sorrow in my heart. We offered hand of peace but all we got is bloodshed. Enemy must realize that we're not a nation that surrenders to bullying, we're a nation that defeats the bullying,” Ghani said on Twitter.
