Modi accuses Oppn of spreading lies about Covid

As Congress sought to derail the Parliament proceedings for the second-day and took  potshots at Government ‘s Covid-19 management, Prime Minister Narendra Modi retaliated  on Tuesday accusing the Opposition party of “spreading lies” and “politicising” the Covid-19 pandemic and sought party MPs to counter it.

“It has not been able to come out of the coma (that) we have come this far. Congress’ behaviour is unfortunate, they are not able to digest the fact that we have reached this far and that there is no shortage of vaccine.

Even in Delhi, 20% of the frontline workers have not been vaccinated, “ said Modi attacking  the Congress in the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting.Congress and other Opposition parties have charged the Modi-government with being caught off-guard during April-May second-killer-wave of the pandemic and declaring ‘early victory’ over the Covid19.

Thousands of people died in the national Capital itself during the second wave of the pandemic.A party MP quoted Prime Minister saying that Covid-19 was not a matter of politics but a “matter of humanity” for the BJP.”Corona is not a matter of politics for us, it is a matter of humanity. Earlier during an epidemic, more people used to die of hunger rather than the disease but we did not let that happen,” Modi said to have told  MPs.

The Prime Minister  asked the them to be  battle-ready for the third wave of the pandemic which, according to the medical and research fraternity, is anticipated to hit the country from late August to September.

Modi asked his party members to counter the ‘lies’ being spread by the opposition about Covid-19 and government’s policies.

The Prime Minister urged  the MPs to make adequate efforts to bring correct facts before the people and create awareness about what all government has done to check and mitigate the suffering inflicted by the pandemic, he said.

He also understandably asked MPS to visit Public Distribution Shops apparently to see that ration is reaching in right hands.

The Prime Minister  also  accused the Congress of playing politics of obstructions.”Despite losing elections one after another, Congress has still not woken up from its stupor. If you look at the current record they have virtually evaporated from the political spectrum.. they only believe in the politics of obstruction and don’t want to debate and discuss,” Modi said in the backdrop of detailing of parliament proceedings.Congress and the other  opposition have for the second-day disrupted the business in both the houses of the Parliament on a host of issues, including price-rise and farmers agitation.

Lok Sabha proceedings on Tuesday ran for barely four minutes, 10 minutes and two minutes before being adjourned for the day at 3 pm by Speaker Om Birla.
