Minister of Information and Water Resource Pijush Hazarika distributed cheques to the beneficiary girl students of Morigaon district at a programme organised at Jagi Higher Secondary School, Jagiroad on Monday. A total of 11,984 girl students in Morigaon district have been selected as eligible to receive financial assistance under this initiative.

The 'Nijut Moina 2.0' scheme-an ambitious program introduced by the State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma aims to prevent child marriage and promote higher education among girl students across Assam. Under this scheme, financial assistance is provided to girl students enrolled in government and selected venture institutions pursuing Higher Secondary, Degree (B.A./B.Sc./B.Com), or Postgraduate (M.A./M.Sc./M.Com/B.Ed.) courses.

In his speech, Minister Hazarika said that women's education is indispensable for the progress of society and the making of a developed nation. He stated that a nation becomes strong only when its women are empowered. Highlighting that developed countries have a significantly higher rate of female participation in the workforce, he said that efforts are underway to increase this rate in India as well. The Nijut Moina scheme, he emphasised, will play a crucial role in ensuring girls' rights to education, health and security.

Citing the examples of Assam's sports icons Hima Das and Lovelina Borgohain, Minister Hazarika urged the girl students to make the best use of schemes like Nijut Moina and strive with dedication and perseverance to become successful citizens. With hard work and determination, even those from remote villages can reach great heights, he added.
