MIM warns against making Hyderabad Union Territory

Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, which has a strong political presence and electoral hold over Hyderabad city, has warned the Union Government against making Hyderabad a Union Territory or giving any status other than an “unconditional capital” of the State of Telangana.

The party came out with a categorical stand on the issue in its reply to the letter to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs which had sought the views of different political parties of the State on issue related with the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

“We have apprehension that the Centre was contemplating to make Hyderabad Union Territory or sort of Union Territory. This apprehension is based on the Union Cabinet note, terms of reference of Group of Ministers and background note of Union Home Ministry to GOM which have no clarity on many important issues including status of Hyderabad, formation of a separate Public Service Commission and HC in the two States,” Asaduddin Owaisi said.

MIM president and member of lok Sabha from Hyderabad Asaduddin Owaisi releasing the copy of his letter, told a media conference that the MIM will never accept anything other than the status of State capital for Hyderabad. He also reiterated his party’s demand that the new State should also have two districts of Rayalaseema — Anantapur and Kurnool — in addition to tend districts of Telangana.
