Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi said that issue of women’s safety highlighted by the Thompson Reuters Foundation was a serious matter and the entire country should ponder over it without doing politics over it.
“This is a fact that Muslims, Dalits and women are facing a serious threat and the situation has worsened over the last four years”, Owaisi told the media in Hyderabad.
He said that the report describing India as the most dangerous country for women was correct and Narendar Modi government should clarify what it intends to do about it.
“But when you ask the Prime Minister about the safety of women he says he has brought triple talaq bill for Muslim women. I want to tell him every woman in the country is worried and fearful today in the country.PM should understand that we are above Afghanistan and Syria in ranking today and you are ruling for the last four years. But he did not listen to me in lok Sabha”, Owaisi said.
Instead of providing security to all the women he is just talking about interfering with Sharia, he said. “Now what he will doIJ This is the finding of Reuters no body can ignore it.
Will the government do something about it or just keep talking of Muslim women who have rejected the triple talaq bill”.
Underlining the serious threat to women, Owaisi said that three women are raped and ten women are assaulted every hour in the country. “Even wife of a major is killed. So the security is not the problem of only poor but also of middle class and the rich. The government should do something about it”.
Stressing that the Muslims, Dalits and women were under attack Owaisi said, “When you talk about the safety of women how about the wife of Qasim who was lynched to death and how about the family members of Sameeuddin who is fighting for his life in hospital, how about mother of Aklaq and the Dalit boys who were killed and beaten up just because they were riding horse. They should also get the safety”, he said.
Meanwhile the Uttar Pradesh unit president of MIM Shoukat Ali and other leaders met the families of the victims of lynching in Hapur They handed over financial help of Rs 100,000 to the family of Qasim who was brutally lynched to death and gave Rs 50000 to the family of Sameeuddin who was injured in the same incident and was undergoing treatment in hospital.
