Two months after the tragedy which had claimed lives of 23 children at Dharmasati Gandaman village in Saran district, mid-day meal resumed in these schools on Monday. After the incident, the schoolchildren and guardians in many of the schools in the district had refused to take mid-day meal out of scare and anger.
With the continuous persuasion and efforts by the district education officials, the mid-day meal was finally cooked at Dharmasati Gandaman School and altogether 103 students took the meal at lunch time.
The school students took the mid-day meal after the education officials present on the occasion and school principal and cooks tasted the food first.
“A total of 103 schoolchildren ate the mid-day meal on Monday and Tuesday and now the mid-day meal has been regularised in the school,” said a district education official. In other schools of the district too the mid-day meal has been started after some initial hiccups, he added.
The incident of mid-day meal tragedy took place in the Dharmasati Gandaman Primary School which was running in a one-room community hall with two teachers, including the principal and two cooks.
