The CBI on Wednesday arrested the two owners of Micromax mobiles while they were allegedly paying Rs 30 lakh bribe to the engineers of North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) for clearance of a banquet hall construction in Wazirpur.

Along with Rajesh Aggarwal and Manish Tuli, owners and partners of Micromax Informatics, the agency also arrested two junior officials of the municipal corporation and carried out searches at 15 locations including residential and official premises of the MCD officers. The sleuths recovered Rs 40 lakh in cash during the searches.

CBI sources said they got a tip-off that Agrawal and Tuli had entered into a deal with the engineers of the civic body to get clearance for construction of their banquet hall in the Wazirpur area in North Delhi in exchange of bribe of Rs 50 lakh. The agency allegedly caught Tuli and Agrawal handing over Rs  30 lakh to two beldars of MCD.
