The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in many parts of the country including Odisha, Maharashtra, parts of Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and adjoining areas of Gangetic West Bengal and Bihar during the next few days.
The low pressure developed over Bay of Bengal is moving inland causing rain and thundershowers during its intrusion. There is also a depression over Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. The depression that is seen intensifying over other parts of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and parts of Gujarat will cause gusty winds and heavy rains for the next 2-3 days.
Similar situation is likely to prevail over Odisha too. Surface winds with speed reaching 40 to 45 kmph and gusting up to 55 kmph from south-westerly direction will hit along and off Odisha coast. Sea condition would be moderate to rough, It has issued a warning to fishermen, advising them not to go out in sea for the next 24 hours.
This sudden Monsoon turnaround has delayed the retreat of Monsoon in the last leg. According to experts, this has effectively brought to a halt its early withdrawal from north-western parts of the country.
