The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Sunday inaugurated Memory Park for all pet lovers who can plant a sapling to pay respect to their pets following their death, at Dogs Sterlization Center, in the national capital.

The inaugration was also coupled with 'Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan'.  Special Officer of the MCD  Ashwani Kumar and Commissioner, Gyanesh Bharti also hoisted the national flag. The chief guest also distributed national flags to the citizens who came with their pets to be part of this campaign.

On the occasion, while prasing the effort of Veterinary Department of civic body and Green Revolution Foundation, Special Officer Kumar said that the 75th Independence Day is being celebrated as "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" and organizing such a program on this occasion is wonderful in itself.

Delhi's first green crematorium is being built by the civic body for small animals, which is a remarkable initiative. In today's life, pets have become an important part of our lives and they also deserve the right to full respect after death.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner MCD, Gyanesh Bharti informed that an eco-friendly CNG based crematorium for small animals is being constructed by the Veterinary Services Department of MCD, which will be completed soon. Informing about the details of the project, Bharti said that this crematorium is being built on PPP model in collaboration with Green Revolution Foundation.

“Two furnaces of 200 kg biomass are being installed in this crematorium, which will be used for the last rites of animals like dogs, cats etc. A Memory Park is also being developed along with the crematorium, where citizens can plant a sapling in the memory of their pets which will be a tribute to their pets' love and loyalty forever.

The MCD is trying to provide the best facilities to the citizens and development of small animal crematorium along with a salubrious Memory Park in and around the crematorium is a significant step in this direction,” Bharti stated.

The concept of dog parks has been borrowed from similar facilities in Hyderabad and Bangaluru. Last year in October, North Delhi Municipal Corporation inaugurated the city’s first pet dog park in Karol Bagh.

On Occasion, Additional Commissioner of Corporation Randhir Sahay and Zonal Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar, Director Veterinary Services, Dr. V.K Singh, and other senior officers were also present along with nearly 100 pet parents along with their pets were also present to commend special event.
