Members of Yuva Vahini court controversy

After BJP leaders taking the law in their hands, now members of Hindu Yuva Vahini floated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath courted controversy by barging into a house and roughing up a Muslim youth and his Hindu girl friend in Meerut on Wednesday morning.

The local police claimed that the youth brigade created a ruckus after some locals informed them that the man had his lady love to a friend’s rented accommodation. The activists told police that the couple was found in an objectionable position. While the woman was released after warning, the youth from Muzaffarnagar was booked on charges of obscenity.

Ironically, defending their action, Meerut zonal head of Hindu Yuva Vahini Sachin Mittal said, “People have become confident and more aware since Adityanath took over as Chief Minister. They want things to be better. The people in the locality where the incident took place, informed us. The word ‘moral policing’ used for us is wrong. On being informed, we immediately called up the police and they reached the spot before us. Police brought them out,” Mittal said.

Meanwhile, in Aligarh, tension prevailed in Jamalpur here after activists of a Hindu outfit tried to rally behind a Muslim woman who squatted outside her in-laws house with her four-year-old daughter after the family threw her out of the house. Shabana (name changed) said that she wanted justice for her daughter and herself and if she was denied, then she could resort to any extreme measure including embracing Hinduism.

The police said that Shabana hails from Bulandshahr and was married to Mohammad Shareef in 2012. Due to marital discord she and her child moved to her parents’ house. When all efforts to reach an amicable settlement failed, Shabana, her daughter and her family went to her husband’s house on Tuesday in a predominantly Muslim locality, but were not allowed in. The woman’s family squatted at the door and soon a crowd gathered. Some prominent local Hindu Mahasabha leaders arrived and assured her they would take up her cause.

The presence of Hindu activists led to tension in the area. Police officials rushed to the spot and defused the situation. In the evening, Hindu activists took her to meet National General Secretary of Mahasabha, Puja Shakun. Shabana told journalists her case had nothing to do with Triple Talaq.

SP City, Atul Srivastava told media persons that they were trying to work out a settlement. The woman and her family later returned to Bulandshahr and decided to come back to Aligarh again to resume their protest if things were not sorted out.
