A chilling series of cases involving wives allegedly conspiring with lovers to murder their husbands has shaken public consciousness across India. The most recent among them, the Sonam Raghuvanshi case, has not only made headlines but also reopened conversations about trust, betrayal and the dark underbelly of relationships.
The gruesome nature of these incidents — spread from Meghalaya to Meerut and Auraiya in Uttar Pradesh — has sent shockwaves through social media, where users are expressing both horror and disbelief.
Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder: A Marriage That Ended in a Gorge
The latest to jolt the nation was the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, a young man from Uttar Pradesh, allegedly at the hands of his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi. The couple had been honeymooning in Meghalaya after their May 11 wedding. But by June 2, Raja’s decomposed body was found in a 1,200-ft-deep gorge in the East Khasi Hills near a waterfall.
The case took a sensational turn when Sonam surrendered at a police station in Ghazipur, UP. According to Meghalaya Police, Sonam had allegedly conspired with contract killers to eliminate her husband. A coordinated investigation led to the arrest of all accused. The motive and planning behind the murder are still under investigation, but the brutality and betrayal have shocked the nation.
Meerut’s Blue Drum Murder: A Chilling Act of Domestic Horror
Just months earlier, Meerut’s “Blue Drum” case had captivated the nation with its horrific details. Saurabh Rajput, a 32-year-old former Merchant Navy officer, was murdered on March 4 allegedly by his wife Muskan Rastogi and her lover Sahil Shukla.
According to the police, Saurabh was drugged, stabbed multiple times in the heart, his throat slit with a butcher’s knife. His body was chopped into 15 pieces, stuffed inside a cement-filled blue plastic drum and concealed in a room at their Brahmpuri residence. The murder came to light when Saurabh’s 6-year-old daughter reportedly whispered to her grandmother, “Papa is in the drum.”
Both Muskan and Sahil are currently in judicial custody in Meerut. In a dramatic development, Muskan reportedly tested positive for pregnancy while in prison, raising further questions about the depth of her relationship with the alleged co-accused.
Auraiya’s Killer Bride: 15 Days to Death
On March 20, Dilip Yadav, 25, succumbed to gunshot injuries after being allegedly attacked by contract killers hired by his wife Pragati Yadav and her lover Anurag in Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya district. The couple had been married for only 15 days.
Investigations revealed that Pragati had maintained a long-term romantic relationship with Anurag and married Dilip under family pressure. Shortly after the wedding, she allegedly plotted the murder. Dilip was shot with a .315-bore pistol in a wheat field. Despite being moved across hospitals, he did not survive. A murder case has been filed and both Pragati and Anurag are under arrest.
Old Cases, New Questions
These chilling incidents have drawn eerie parallels to past cases:
Kanpur’s Panki Case (2023): A woman and her lover were accused of strangling her husband and burying him in the courtyard. The case was cracked only after the woman’s neighbors complained of a foul smell.
Barabanki Acid Case (2022): A woman allegedly threw acid on her husband with the help of her lover after failing to kill him using poison.
Agra Honor Killing Disguised as Infidelity (2021): A woman poisoned her husband with sedatives and then staged a suicide. The investigation revealed her paramour’s involvement.
