Media misrepresenting the facts: Cong

The Congress on Friday asserted that it is proud to be associated with the National Herald and blamed media for misrepresenting the facts. The party alleged that Government agents and proxies are now circulating unsigned notes to media which are false facts from hearing in the Delhi High Court.

“We are proud to be associated with the National Herald. The media is misrepresenting facts,” Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi said at AICC Press conference. He further said that the Government agents and the proxies are circulating false facts to the media. Singhvi said that the Young Indian Company has been given full liberty to object to the reopen of the case.

“We will now await the assessing officer’s decision in accordance with law and, in those proceedings, will be raising all the objections that we have raised today in the writ petition, that the IT department had absolutely no reason to believe in reopening the assessment,” said Singhvi. He said all jurisdictional questions raised in the writ petition were kept alive and allowed to be raised by the party before the assessing officer.

AICC chief spokesman Randeep Surjewala clarified that Young Indian had raised certain fundamental jurisdictional issues challenging authority of Income Tax authorities. “Delhi High Court directed Income Tax authorities to decide all the issues raised in petition before Delhi High Court. Being satisfied with it, Mr. Abhishek Singhvi, Advocate for Young Indian has himself withdrawn the petition,” said Surjewala.

“Incidentally, Young Indian is a ‘not for profit’ company that only runs the ‘National Herald ‘ paper which is the last vestige of freedom movement which contributed to India’s freedom struggle. No one can withdraw a single rupee of profit, salary or dividend from it or benefit from it any manner as per the Companies Act. We are proud of protecting this imp symbol of the freedom struggle and will always protect this trust of people of India,” he said adding that witch hunt or malice of the current BJP Govt will not deter us from upholding our bounden duty to the Nation.
