MCG forms special teams to address 160 waterlogging-prone sites in Gurugram

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has launched an extensive pre-monsoon action plan on Monday which involves the deployment of special teams across 160 locations identified as waterlogging-prone within the city to prevent the recurring issue of waterlogging during the monsoon season, officials said.

The campaign was spearheaded by MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya and was reinforced during a high-level review and planning meeting chaired by Gurugram MLA Mukesh Sharma. The meeting was convened to address various civic concerns and public complaints, especially those related to sewerage, drainage, road infrastructure, cleanliness, beautification and waterlogging within the Gurugram assembly constituency.

Commissioner Dahiya announced that the MCG is working on a war footing to clean and repair drainage infrastructure across these 160 vulnerable sites.

The corporation has accelerated maintenance work and is also installing new gully traps (GTs) where required to improve water discharge and prevent accumulation. These efforts are aimed at minimising urban flooding during heavy rainfall, which has been a persistent issue in the city.

During the meeting, MLA Mukesh Sharma presented a detailed list of ward-wise issues that require immediate attention. In response, Commissioner Dahiya instructed the concerned officers to initiate prompt action. Among the most pressing concerns was the issue of unauthorised sewer connections made by certain residential societies near the Dwarka Expressway. Dahiya directed the authorities to take strict action and ensure proper legal procedures are followed for connecting to the city’s sewer network.

Another major infrastructural challenge addressed in the meeting was the outdated sewerage system in the Daulatabad Industrial Area. Plans are now underway to lay a separate and efficient sewerage line specifically for this region. Additionally, the responsibility for repairing roads disrupted during drainage and sewerage work will now rest squarely on the contractors handling the projects. This move aims to ensure accountability and prevent delays in road restoration.

As part of this initiative, all entry roads into Gurugram will be repaired, and beautified entrance gates will be constructed. Major intersections and squares across the city will also undergo beautification to enhance the urban environment. Furthermore, a new road is being planned from CRPF Chowk to Kamdhenu Gaushala to alleviate traffic congestion along Sheetla Mata Road and Palam Vihar Road.

To improve the city’s street lighting system, Commissioner Dahiya has mandated the installation of a Centralised Control and Monitoring System (CCMS) in all new streetlights. This system will facilitate real-time monitoring and ensure timely maintenance, thereby improving public safety and energy efficiency.

MLA Sharma emphasised the urgent need to operationalise the water boosting stations built in Subhash Nagar, Pratap Nagar, and Bhimnagar to ensure a steady and reliable drinking water supply in these neighborhoods.

He also reiterated the demand for timely road repairs in these regions.

“Our effort is to ensure that residents of the Gurugram Assembly constituency receive essential civic amenities promptly and without compromise on quality. All departments must work in coordination so that public complaints are resolved swiftly and development works proceed without delay,” Sharma stated.

Commissioner Dahiya affirmed this commitment, declaring that there will be zero tolerance for negligence in public welfare projects.

“Regular inspections will be conducted by officials, and accountability will be enforced at every level to ensure all projects are completed on time and with the highest standards of quality,” he asserted.
