While hailing Ram Nath Kovind after taking oath as the 14th President of India, BSP chief Mayawati criticised the First Citizen for not paying tributes to Dr BR Ambedkar.

“The act of the new President shows his mentality like a RSS person as he should have paid tribute to Dr Ambedkar. It was a good gesture of Kovind in paying visit to Rajghat at the ‘samadhi’ of Mahatma Gandhi but question will always asked why he skipped paying tribute to Dr Ambedkar on Parliament premises,” said Mayawati.

In a statement isued in lucknow on Tuesday, the BSP chief also slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for adopting a confined stance by visiting flood-affected Gujarat while ignoring similar calamities in other parts of the country.

“Modi is now the PM of the country and not the CM of Gujarat. He should be impartial in his act. The present BJP Government at the Centre was just focusing on the BJP-ruled States and ignoring others,” she alleged.
