Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati has questioned the findings of a pre-poll survey by a private TV channel, saying the survey was “sponsored, misleading, mischievous and lacks credibility”.
She said even as the popularity of the Bharatiya Janata party had nosedived due to massive dislocation in economy due to pandemic, the survey had predicted over 40 percent vote for the BJP in the 2022 UP assembly elections.
“The survey lacks credibility. In 2007 UP assembly elections, despite the wave in favour of the Bahujan Samaj Party, the pre poll surveys had predicted that BSP will emerge as the single largest party. The poll results proved them wrong and the Bahujan Samaj party got a clear majority,” Mayawati said in a statement here on Saturday.
Mayawati said the BSP cadre was trained and ready to deal with conspiracies and people would not be misled by a sponsored campaign by the media.
She said the sole purpose of the survey appeared to be to project the BJP as the strongest contender to win the 2022 assembly election. She said the BSP accepted the challenge and after the survey the BSP cadre was working for the assembly election with more devotion and determination.
“I trust my cadre and as the election draws close, such misleading campaigns and conspiracies will only grow loud and shrill. There is nothing new as this kind of malicious campaign is always launched by the media to break the morale of the BSP ahead of the elections,” Mayawati said.
