Mayawati fears early lok Sabha, Assembly polls

Apprehending early Parliamentary and Assembly elections by the end of next year, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati sermonised the ruling BJP at the Centre and State not to dither from their tall promises and deliver to the people on time.

She also lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his remarks on the recent death of children in Gorakhpur.

She claimed that the BJP had cheated people by making tall promises of ‘achchhe din’ but did nothing on the ground level. “The people have understood the double speak of Saffron leaders and their distorted thinking,” she claimed.

The former UP Chief Minister also expressed annoyance over the manner in which Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and senior BJP leaders tackled the Gorakhpur tragedy.

“It is shocking and has exposed their (BJP leaders) insensitivity. BJP chief Amit Shah’s told the press in Bengaluru that this was not the first time such deaths took place in this large country. And the POM went a step ahead of Shah,” Mayawati charged.

“The death of children in Gorakhpur was caused by criminal, official negligence and not due to a natural disaster. People of the county should now decipher the distorted thinking of BJP leaders,” Mayawati said.

During his Independence Day speech on Tuesday, Modi while expressing concern over natural calamities had compared the deaths of children in Gorakhpur as a ‘natural calamity’. Mayawati said that everyone was aware that the tragedy was a fall out of rampant corruption at every level yet the PM tried to save the BJP dispensation in UP terming it as ‘natural calamity’ even as his party MP and the RSS condemned it.

“Instead of acting against erring Ministers and others, both Modi and Shah behaved in an authoritarian manner and the BSP condemns it in the strongest words,” she charged.

The BSP chief said that the BJP wanted to hold lok Sabha and Assembly polls by the end of next year in some BJP-ruled Hindi-speaking States and hence the party should at least work honestly for the welfare of people.

Terming the Modi Government’s claims of fighting corruption as hollow, Mayawati said that the Centre has not set up lokpal in the last three years and its Governments in States were desisting from acting against corrupt Ministers and others.

Mayawati said that merely due to non-secular stand, castiest policies and other unpopular exercises, the country was lagging behind and peace amongst the people was fast dwindling as every one was forced to live in ‘fear’.
