Maya to BJP: Impose Prez Rule in unruly UP

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati dared the BJP to deliver on its poll promise made during the 2014 lok Sabha elections of imposing the President Rule in the State after coming to power at the Centre. Mayawati said BJP has made  bad law and order in UP a big poll issue and it must honour the promise.

Accusing the BJP president Amit Shah of being hand-in- glove with the Samajwadi Party and making absurd statements on law and order of the State during the series of political rallies addressed by him, Mayawati said, “instead of resorting to gimmicks, the BJP must deliver on its poll promise before the 2017 State Assembly polls and impose President’s Rule in UP, if it wants the support from the voters of the State''.

Addressing a Press conference here on Sunday Mayawati said, “The BJP instead of honouring  its poll promise made in 2014 , is beating around the bush and indulging in gimmicks by saying whether US president Barrack Obama will come to fix the law and order in Uttar Pradesh''.

“Its the constitutional responsibility of PM Narendra Modi and not of the US President Barrack Obama to intervene in UP due to the collapse of law and order and prevailing jungle raj in UP. The statement of Amit Shah referring Obama is not only highly irresponsible but absurd 'said Mayawati.

Mayawati, when asked “who will be the main rival of the BSP in 2017 Assembly elections', said “it was too early to raise this question''.

Seeking to downplay the significance of the series of defection of senior party leaders and cadre from the party, Mayawati asserted that “Ayaram and Gaya rams (defectors) never impact the electoral prospects of the Bahujan Samaj Party''. Mayawati did not name any of the leaders like Swami Prasad Maurya and RK Chowdhary, who resigned from the BSP recently.

“During the Congress-led UPA regime at the Centre, the BJP leaders flowed the line of the BSP and from the top of their voice demanded imposition of the President's rule in UP. After Coming to power at the Centre, the BJP seems to have developed cold feet and following the footsteps of the Congress' charged Mayawati.

Disputing the claim of BJP President Amit Shah that the law and order was not the constitutional responsibility of the PM, Mayawati said “PM by maintaining studious silence on the issue cannot escape  from the constitutional obligations.''   She also sought to remind the BJP that “President’s rule was imposed in UP in December 1992 and the Government headed by Kalyan Singh was dismissed following the demolition of the Babri mosque leading to the breakdown of law and order in the State''.

“BJP is politically very weak in UP and that is why the party has so far refrained from taking decisive action against the SP Government. The poor State of the BJP in UP can also be gauzed from the fact that it is unable to mobilise the crowd. To lure people, BJP has promised Assembly ticket to as many as 9-10 personas in each constituency'', said Mayawati adding “because of poor response of the people the political rallies have been renamed as “booth management meeting''.

Reminding the BJP of another poll promise Mayawati said “the NDA Government should give Rs20 lakhs each to the poor of the country from the black money to be  recovered from the economic offenders and the business houses''. She added “BJP’s Chaal-Charitra and Chehra (behaviour, character and ideology) would never allow it to do so as they are the party of the industrialists and they will only protect the interests of the corporate world''.

The former UP Chief Minister alleged that the Income Tax Department had given the names of several industrialists and big corporate house involved in tax evasion. “Modi Government lacks moral courage to act against them and recover the money''.
