Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Wednesday lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party for promoting a culture of firearm exhibition in the name of yatras and demanded that the state government crush these forces with a heavy hand.
She also accused the Centre of adopting double standards in dealing with state governments on the basis of whether they were led by the BJP or its rival parties.
“The Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is adopting double standards in while dealing with Bihar ruled by the BJP coalition and West Bengal government headed by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee,” she said in a statement released in lucknow on Wednesday.
“The recent BJP processions in West Bengal and Bihar in which their cadre openly flaunted firearms resulted in tension brewing in both the states, which is unfortunate. Both states as well as the Centre should curb these forces with an iron hand,” she said.
Mayawati alleged discrimination in the Central government’s action regarding the incidents in both the states.
