The BJP on Monday observed a dawn-to-dusk shutdown in Kerala’s Thrissur district to protest against the murder of a young party worker by suspected CPI(M) activists at Mukkattukara on the outskirts of Thrissur city late Sunday night. Another young BJP worker suffered serious stab injuries in the attack. The BJP alleged that the party worker was murdered as part of a CPI(M) conspiracy.
Nirmal (20), son of Balan of Poradan House of Nettissery, Mukkattukara and his friend and party colleague Thomas alias Mithun (29), son of Johny of Chirayankandath, Nayarangadi came under the attack of the Marxists when they were returning home after the annual festival at the Kokkulangara Bhagavati temple at Mukkattukara at around 11.15 pm on Sunday. Though Nirmal was taken to the nearby private medical college hospital with stab injuries, life could not be saved. Mithun, who suffered serious stab injuries, was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thrissur. Police sources indicated that political tension had been prevailing in the area for some time.
“Nirmal was murdered by hoodlums hired by CPI(M) councilor Satheesh Chandran. The nature of the attack showed that their aim was indeed to kill both Nirmal and Mithun. The Marxists have been perpetrating violence against the BJP in the district since the last Assembly election,” said A Nagesh, BJP’s Thrissur district president.
