Marking World Stroke Day, Marengo Asia Hospitals, Faridabad, has launched its Advanced Neuromodulation Unit, introducing Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (RTMS), an advanced, non-invasive brain stimulation technology. The unit was inaugurated by Dr. Raajiv Singhal, Founding Member, Group Managing Director and CEO of Marengo Asia Hospitals.
The launch marks an important step towards strengthening the hospital’s neurosciences services and expanding access to evidence-based treatment options for patients with neurological and certain mental health conditions.
RTMS uses targeted magnetic pulses to modulate neural activity in specific regions of the brain without surgery. The new unit will enable specialist-led assessments of its potential applications across a range of clinical conditions, with treatment suitability determined by individual patient needs and available clinical evidence. Specialist-Led Assessment Across a Range of Neurological Conditions
World Stroke Day highlights the challenges faced by people living with stroke and other neurological conditions. Through its Advanced Neuromodulation Unit, the hospital will assess the potential applications of RTMS in conditions including post-stroke motor impairment, movement disorders, chronic pain, migraine, tinnitus, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and support for nicotine cessation.
The unit will also evaluate its potential use in other selected conditions under specialist supervision. Treatment decisions will be guided by clinical evidence, the patient’s medical condition and individual requirements, with the aim of incorporating appropriate interventions into personalised care plans. RTMS May Complement Existing Treatment and Rehabilitation Approaches
Explaining the technology, Dr Sushma Sharma, Programme Clinical Director — Neurology, Marengo Asia Hospitals, Faridabad, said:
The brain has a remarkable ability to adapt and reorganise its neural connections, a phenomenon known as neuroplasticity. RTMS uses targeted magnetic pulses to modulate neural activity in specific regions of brain.
In carefully selected patients, this technology may complement existing treatment approaches. Its potential applications are being explored in areas as post-stroke rehabilitation, Parkinsonism-related rigidity, fibromyalgia, other neurological pain syndromes, and certain neuropsychiatric conditions, including depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). It may also be considered as part of a broader treatment approach to support nicotine cessation. “For stroke survivors, the objective is to assess whether targeted brain stimulation, alongside structured rehabilitation, may help improve motor function and support recovery. Appropriate patient selection, individualised treatment protocols and continuous clinical assessment are essential to evaluating outcomes.”
Expanding Access to Advanced Neurological Care in Faridabad
Dr. (Col.) Navneet Singh Chhabra, Facility Director, Marengo Asia Hospitals, Faridabad, said, “The launch of our Advanced Neuromodulation Unit on World Stroke Day reflects our continued commitment to bringing advanced medical technologies closer to the communities we serve. Neurological conditions can significantly affect not only a patient’s physical health but also their independence, emotional well-being and overall quality of life.
“With the introduction of rTMS, we are expanding our capabilities to provide more comprehensive and personalised neurological care. Our vision is to ensure that patients in Faridabad and neighbouring regions have access to advanced treatment options under expert medical supervision, without necessarily having to travel to distant healthcare centres.”
The establishment of the Advanced Neuromodulation Unit further strengthens Marengo Asia Hospitals, Faridabad’s neurosciences services. By bringing together advanced diagnostic capabilities, acute stroke management, rehabilitation and evolving therapeutic technologies, the hospital aims to support comprehensive neurological care through a patient-centric, multidisciplinary approach.
