The CBI on Thursday registered an FIR in a Kochi court in the case related to the larger conspiracy behind the 2003 massacre at Marad, a fishing hamlet in Kozhikode district, in which eight Hindus were killed. The agency had taken up the investigation into the conspiracy behind the May 2, 2003 incident, in which a Muslim also had died, as per a directive of the Kerala High Court.
The CBI has named Muslim league leader MC Mayin Haji and PP Moideen Koya, four members of a mosque committee, certain leaders of Islamist outfit NDF (presently Popular Front of India) whose names have not been mentioned, etc as accused. In effect, the CBI has re-registered the FIR prepared by the Kerala Police’s Crime Branch which had held probe in the case earlier.
The FIR has been registered in accordance with the finding of the Justice Thomas P Joseph Judicial Commission which had looked into the Marad massacre that a conspiracy that could affect national security had gone into the incident. The investigation is being carried out by the Thiruvananthapuram unit of the CBI.
