'Many TMC men ready to join BJP in Bengal'

The days of Trinamool Congress in Bengal are numbered and the party was facing dissent from within, which can be proved by the fact that many ruling party members are in touch with the BJP, says saffron outfit’s Central observer Kailash Vijayvargiya.

“There are many Trinamool workers who are in touch with us and would join us when appropriate moment comes,” says the senior BJP leader though his claims have been rejected willy nilly by Bengal EducationMinister and TMC general secretary Partho Chatterjee who says the coming panchayat elections will show how BJP workers join us in hordes.

Vijayvargiya’s statement assumes importance in the backdrop of Supreme Court order, allowing CBI investigation in Narada case and the poor attendance in the Trinamool women’s wing rally on Thursday against what they claimed “concocted stories against Trinamool leaders to malign the party”.

Incidentally a second rally — on the same issue led by topmost TMC leaders, save Mamata Banerjee — on Friday too was not as impressive as it should have been.

When asked as to whether his party would accept fugitives from Trinamool Congress he said it definitely would, "provided they are not involved in Narada or Sharada cases and they are willing to take active part in social service."

Vijayvargiya who stopped short of daring Banerjee to save her party in Bengal tended to echo similar statements made by Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh who earlier said many Trinamool leaders were in touch with the BJP brass.

"Right now I cannot name those TMC leaders who have contacted us and expressed their desire to join our party because nothing has been finalized yet and we do not want to embarrass them," Ghosh said.

Notwithstanding BJP's claim Partho Chatterjee claimed, "the BJP is spreading lies to unsettle the TMC workers, but our workers know that the people of Bengal are with us. Very soon it will be clear when hordes of BJP workers start joining us in the panchayat elections."

Incidentally the Bengal Chief Minister had earlier pooh-poohed the idea of the BJP posing any major threat to her party in the 2021 Assembly elections.

"The BJP is just the third or the fourth party in Bengal in terms of numbers. We don't feel threatened by them.," she said adding "from this position how will they capture the GovernmentIJ By forceIJ" she said. "If the BJP targets Bengal we will target Delhi," she said leading Vijavargiya to subsequently say "first let her save Bengal and then think of Delhi."
